I had the chance to check out 500 Days of Summer last week with my buddy Sarah (whom I still call Moreas, despite her married name being Brush). The movie was amazing for a number of reasons, in addition to being a kick-ass Yelp event.
I think I liked the movie so much because I could identify so well with both the male and female leads on how they felt about love. Once you see the movie, you’ll know what I mean. I don’t want to ruin it!

Other highlights of the film included the wardrobe (Zooey Deschanel, you never fail to amaze me with your clothes!), the choreography and the soundtrack. Definitely one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard in a long time. Slash Film has a cool take on the soundtrack that’s spot-on.
Other cool movies recently? Definitely Away We Go. John Krasinski, I heart you a little bit more.

Ok, blog, I don’t hate you. I just got really busy for, like three months. And I’m not done being busy.
The other week I got invited to Yelp’s Elite Game Night at Mudgie’s in Corktown. SO much fun. Mudgie’s is a great sandwich shop that I’ll definitely check out again. Take a look at some of our fun from that night.

Mudgie’s!

Slowly but surely, people. My Target officially has an Orla end cap now! I added a few more pieces while bumming around with my mom this evening.

Orla Kiely for Target - EEE! I’m just waiting for the rest of her goodies! I picked these up at my local Target this week, and so far, it’s the only stuff they’ve received. I found the last set!

Don’t forget to wear red for women tomorrow!
Categories: Uncategorized
February is a very important month for me for a few reasons. Let’s see. We’ve got my dad’s birthday, several friend birthdays, VALENTINE’S DAY and Go Red for Women.
I first heard about Go Red for Women when I was a community reporter in Madison Heights. The city was really proactive in raising money for the American Heart Association and raising heart health awareness with its employees, specifically they’re female employees since heart disease is such a terrible killer for women. The city passed out red dress pins to employees, posted info on healthy eating and different ways to get active. I thought it was all great.
That was 2005. Two years later I found out I had high blood pressure. Bleck. Right away I became a huge supporter of Go Red for Women. After it was determined my high blood pressure was a delicious result of genes, stress and lifestyle, I stepped back and realized, “Crap. I drink a ton of diet pop in a day. I eat at least one Lean Cuisine (if not two) per day. I like condiments. CRAP.” I cut out all of that, with a few exceptions in moderation. I took medication for a while, but went off it with more food swaps. I know I can do even more, but sometimes it’s hard to change old habits!
So that’s why February is important to me. I think “Go Red” is a great initiative. I’m sure some people put it right up there with breast cancer activism. I used to be annoyed with all the branded products, but honestly, if it raising money and you enjoy it, roll with it.
I just joined the Go Red for Women social network. Should be interesting! I’m always intrigued when cause-oriented campaigns dig deep into the Internet. As you can see from my sidebar, I support the ASPCA. I think they do a great job online
I received the 2009 Go Red Swarovski bracelet as a gift after Edie died. I wear it every day to remind of both her and being healthy. Swarovski is just one of the companies involved with Go Red products. Definitely check some of them out. This Friday, Feb.6, is “Wear Red for Women Day.” Wear red if you feel so motivated. And more importantly, take care of your ticker!

Riddle me this, Batman. Why do I keep receiving renewal notices from Domino DESPITE the fact the magazine is going out of business? UGH.

I thought it couldn’t get any better than the Snuggie, a favorite among many of my friends. (Not to be confused with the Slanket!)

The Snuggie. NOT the Slanket.

The Slanket. NOT the Snuggie.
This morning I was getting caught up on my Whitesnake and Rick Astley videos on VH1 Classic when an ad for the “Shoe Skirt” came on.

Yeah.
The Shoe Skirt is a bed skirt with pockets for your shoes. I’ve now seen it all. If only I had a bed skirt on my bed… According to the SciMark Report, this ad scores very well when it comes to, um, infomercials?
NOTE: While writing this post, the Shoe Skirt ad came on again. This might be a sign.

Just when I thought this week was busy and packed, the unexpected happen: Edie, my dear family friend and second mom, died suddenly after having a stroke. She had been ill for a while, but this caught everyone off guard. Edie essentially helped raise me from the time I was 6 weeks old when my mom had to go back to work. As you can imagine I’m not handling this very well.
So far I’ve managed to run out of basic household supplies without a care, make my car payment twice (my checking account is loving that at the moment), totally switch dates and times of things, cry at the drop of a hat and accidentally piss off many. I was an R.A. for two years in college, so, ironically, I’m not the first person to open up as if going to therapy.
The visitation is Sunday and the funeral is Monday. If I seem flakier than normal to you in the next few days, I apologize. I’m trying to work in some time for hanging out by myself this weekend, as I do that when I’m stressed or upset. And besides, nobody wants to see me cry when Foreigner comes on the radio.
