Two-Lane Blacktop

Wow. Jen and I watched this movie not too long ago during a day of laziness, hopefully a new tradition in the making for Sundays.

I saw a poster for this movie at the GM Heritage Center during the Woodward Dream Cruise. The promise of Dennis Wilson and James Taylor acting was too great to ignore, so I started to see where I could rent it. I didn’t have much luck, but randomly, my cable had it on OnDemand this weekend…

After watching the movie, I spent a good portion of Sunday evening trying to decide if this movie is brilliant or messed up. I decided I think it’s brilliant. There’s hardly any music, limited speaking… I can see why it’s a cult classic. The film’s history is also pretty amazing. It has one of my guilty pleasure cars in it (a Pontiac GTO Judge), half the stars are dead (“The Girl” was Art Garfunkel’s girlfriend), and it’s hard to find on DVD. I’m sure Jen will think I’m nuts for officially liking it. But with lines like, “What are you trying to do, man, blow my mind?” how can you not like it?

Check out the trailer.

Anyone else seen this movie? I’m curious to hear feedback, or even where I might be able to snag a copy on DVD.
