Thanks for nothing, Old Navy and Macy’s

It’s pretty fitting that given the current economic crisis, I seem to be getting credit cards I didn’t apply for right in my mailbox.

It first started with Macy’s. One day I come home from work and there’s a Macy’s Visa waiting for me. What the?! I didn’t request that. What pisses me off is that is was sent to me with the goodies ready to go. I called customer service and they tried to get me to stick with the card. When I repeatedly said not only did I NOT want the card, I didn’t ask for it at the store and was extremely irritated. Needless to say customer service was less than stellar and the card was eventually closed.

(This wasn’t the first time I’ve had crappy service with Macy’s. Besides terrible wedding gifts I continually ship from Macy’s, my friend had an awful time trying to order luggage at the State Street Macy’s in Chicago.)

Fast forward to last week. I get an Old Navy Visa instead of an Old Navy store card. I just got off the phone with Old Navy customer service (after calling another number and being told they could do nothing to help me but give me another number) and was told that Old Navy ALWAYS issues Visas unless you specifically request a store-only card. What the?! Yeah, here’s a shocker: the 17-year-old processing my “store card” request didn’t explain that to me. What’s more irritating was the customer service rep who kept trying to get me to stick with the card after I repeatedly expressed my anger about the situation.

So, thanks a lot Macy’s and Old Navy. I really did appreciate all this.

  1. Yeah, they started doing the visa thing a little while ago. I canceled my Banana Republic card when they automatically sent me one to replace my store card.
